Carlos Godínez

aka (El Californio)

My name is Carlos A. Godínez, Peruvian by birth living in the United States for many years.

Graduated in Economics from PUC of Peru, I started my career in computing due to the need to survive, as there was little work for economists in Lima, but there were jobs available for programmers, especially in the area of micro/mini computers that had just arrived in Peru.

I had the opportunity to emigrate to the United States to continue my career as a programmer at Pacific Bell, a company created as a product of AT&T’s breakup in 1984. I continued my career working for other companies in Silicon Valley (California) as Informix, Pyramid, and Sun Microsystems (all defunct).

It is in the Pyramid where my career as an engineer of performance began as part of the sales organization. It was a practical/long/difficult learning that understood operating systems, hardware/network configuration and databases (Oracle). The objective was to support the sale of computer equipment by demonstrating that software/hardware configuration was suitable for supporting client application. From there I moved to SUN where continued in the same line of work. There, I had the opportunity to work with experts such as Adrian Cockcroft and Niel Gunther. Over 15 years, I was proud to support the sale of millions of dollars in Pyramid/SUN equipment and work with clients from all over the world, including Mexico and South America.

After working on performance in companies like Kaiser Permanente, Schwab, and TimeInc, I moved from California to New Jersey to work as a lead load testing group using tools such as Python, JMeter, Taurus, and Blazemeter. My specialty is designing for load and capacity planning.

During my free time, I dedicate myself to cooking (Peruvian cuisine, of course), being a Latin dance DJ, and dancing.

You can find me in the JMeter group on Slack if you have a question (in English or Spanish).
